When you send emails using the Outlook add-in, you may specify one of four different levels of trust (NONE, LOW, MED, or HIGH), each associated with increasingly strong authentication measures. Using the TrustX portal or the TrustX iPad application, you may specify LOW, MED, or HIGH levels of trust. TrustX has been configured to associate security measures with levels of trust as shown in the table below. Note that we may change this configuration or add new biometrics (such as palm prints) in the future. You will be informed prior to any future updates.
| Level | Authentication required of recipient |
|---|---|
| None | Log onto recipient’s email account (required for all levels) |
| Low | Acknowledge via mobile phone (something you have) |
| Medium | PIN (something you have plus something you know) |
| High | PIN + biometrics (something you have, something you know, plus something you are) |
When you specify a “high” level of trust, you are requiring that the recipient be very strongly authenticated before they can access the content of your secure email. As this involves more actions for the recipient, you should only specify this when the contents of the email are sensitive enough to warrant this extra effort.
When you send a secure email, you can be assured that TrustX will validate the recipient as the same person who registered that email address with TrustX. It is your responsibility to ensure that the intended recipient has registered this email address with TrustX.
